More than 75% of the nearly five hundred existing research groups in Catalonia come under the umbrella of university departments and centres.

In recent years, science and technology parks have grown up around certain Catalan universities, such as the El Vallès Technology Park (Cerdanyola del Vallès), Barcelona Science Park (Barcelona) and the Mediterranean Technology Park (Castelldefels). All three parks were intended to bring together and pool scientific progress with real applications in the industrial and business worlds, or to move forward in research projects that, without the conditions provided by these parks and the broadening of the industrial sectors themselves, would be unviable or would never be put into practice.

Students who are interested in carrying out research at a university in Catalonia will find all of the relevant information on the website of the Government of Catalonia.
