APAIE Conference & Exhibition 2019. The Asia-Pacific Association for International Education’s (APAIE) annual conference is the most important gathering in the Asia-Pacific region for professionals and experts in the field of education. The aim is to promote cross-border cooperation, enhance research, and encourage and facilitate exchange in matters of higher education in Asia, the regions of the Pacific and the world. It also seeks to promote the internationalisation of its academic institutions and provide them with support. More than 2,000 delegates from around the world will attend this large-scale exhibition alongside some 300 exhibitors.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is leading the organisation of the conference with the support of six other universities:

The theme of the APAIE 2019 Conference is: "Diversity and Inclusivity of Higher Education in the Asia-Pacific" The organisation has outlined four sub-themes:

  1. Transnational higher education in the twenty-first century: the changes brought about by the fourth industrial revolution and which best practices to develop, among other things, in order to attract international students.
  2. Mobility and diversity: Developing global citizens: what role do higher education institutions play in ensuring that students become effective members of the global community. There are also tools for managing cultural diversity that can help you interact effectively with people from other cultures and countries
  3. Inclusion, equality and diversity in higher education: one of the greatest responsibilities of higher education is eliminating discrimination and promoting equal opportunities based on diversity. Empowerment and student support programmes have been curated following this premise.
  4. Harmonising regional higher education: the Asia-Pacific region's singularity means that a great diversity of political regimes, levels of development and religions coexist and directly influence the education systems. Reflection on policymaking and harmonisation among different regions takes place in this context.

The event will include pre-conference workshops, exhibitions, keynotes, parallel sessions, networking events and visits to local universities.

The Catalan university system first took part in the annual APAIE conference in 2013, when it was held in Hong Kong (China). The following year it followed the event to Seoul (South Korea), and then in 2015 to Beijing (China). In 2016 it was hosted in Melbourne (Australia), in 2017 in Kaohsiung (Taiwan), and in 2018, in Singapore. It will take part for the seventh time in 2019 in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).
